Advancing Cyber Resilience

Principles and Tools for Boards and Execs

Cybersecurity remains a top priority for business and government leaders.  As the world becomes more digitized and hyperconnected, risks and vulnerabilities also increase.  At the same time, attackers are becoming more sophisticated, more resourceful, and better organized.

The World Economic Forum has been raising awareness and understanding of the need for Cyber Resilience since 2011.  Recognizing the lack of tools, frameworks and guidelines to help executives build cyber resilience into their organization, the forum launched an initiative with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) focused on developing board-level capabilities for strategic thinking and governance in cybersecurity and resiliency.

Cyber resilience is a leadership issue.

Recognizing that cyber resilience is more a matter of strategy and culture than tactics, the forum partnered with BCG and HPE to author a new report that provides a framework and set of tools that leaders can leverage to instill cyber resiliency into their organization. This week at their annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland, the forum released the new report – “Advancing Cyber Resilience – Principles and Tools for Boards”.

Read the new World Economic Forum blog and paper.  Explore their views on:

  • The evolving role and accountability of BoDs and CxOs in cyber resilience strategies
  • 10 board principles to help drive cyber resilience into organizations
  • Cyber principle toolkits to foster self-assessment and constructive dialogue between boards and executives on the topic of cyber resilience
  • Cyber risk framework to understand an organization’s risk appetite and profile
  • Insight on emerging technologies to evaluate risk posed by new and emerging technologies such as IOT

HPE hopes these tools will provide the means by which boards and business leaders can take action on ensuring their organizations adopt cyber resilience strategies.
